Hi, my name is Art Michel.  I have been employed by Adams Lake Band as the Information Systems Manager since June of 2006.  We have over 65 computer systems spread over two communities.  Our main Band Administration is located in the larger of these two communities in Chase BC.  We have approximately 50 PCs and notebooks connected by a network domain.
The Information Technology (IT) Department is generally tied to the main office administration in Chase but limited support is provided for systems located on Switsemalph IR #6 in Salmon Arm.

imagine you see a pictograph that looks goodThe IT Department has been involved in a number of large projects:
  • The Adams Lake Band has upgraded its network; we now have three computer network servers to provide for our growing Local Area Network.  Two of the servers handle the demands of six administration buildings and one server is dedicated to a 3 Band GIS Mapping project. Upgrading these servers prompted us to replace a number of our older computer systems.
  • Upgrading hardware and software is a continuous activity, computer components wear out and some of our older systems were becoming obsolete and had to be replaced.  We monitor the level of service of all computers, printers, scanners, plotters, and fax machines and strive for an acceptable standard in all technical products.
  • The Sexqeltqin Health Centre in 2006 implemented Mustimuhw Health Information System.  This information system provides for the many employees working out of two on-reserve health centers, one in Chase and the other in Salmon Arm.  I provide technical support for this health information system.  This involved working closely with the full health staff and the Mustimuhw Health Information System Team, which consisted of the Mustimuhw technical developer, Mustimuhw trainer, and the Mustimuhw health support contact.
  • Developing procedure instruction manuals is another ongoing activity.  Developing manuals within the IT Department is just one measure we have taken to be more involved in the technical development of Adams Lake Band administration.  We have always contracted out the major network tasks, but over time we have taken control of more and more of our technical issues within our Band.
