M I S S I O N

Introduction
 

Our Mission of the Sexqeltqin Health Centre is to strive to develop programs and services that work toward improving the quality of health for Adams Lake Band members. The Sexqeltqin Health Centre provides information to assist individuals and families in making their own decisions about lifestyles.


P R O G R A M S   A N D     S E R V I C E S


A B O R I G I N A L     H E A D S T A R T     O N     R E S E R V E :

Provides children from the ages of 3 to 5 with an early readiness program that will help prepare them to enter any school. Their teachings include: Aboriginal culture and language, parental involvement, health promotion, nutrition, and social support.

P R E N A T A L / P O S T N A T A L     C A R E :

Provide prenatal classes and monthly Baby Circles. We like to include elders and their traditional ideals. The Community Health nurse visits in the home and gives information such as post natal counselling, if needed, nutrition, and infant care. We also have classes for Infant First Aid. We provide updated resources to parents in each community. The Community Health nurse visits the community in Switsemalph each week.

D E N T A L    P R O G R A M :

We provide a dental program, Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) to children in Headstart, Daycare, Chief Atahm, and Language Nest. A dental hygienist and the COHI Aide are in the community at least twice a month. The COHI Aide visits the children ages 0 to 7 years and does fluoride treatments and checks their teeth. They also make referrals to dentists if needed.

E L D E R S    P R O G R A M :

The health programs for elders promote a “Healthy Lifestyle” by facilitating and encouraging the following programs:

  • Traditional and cultural activities
  • Nutritional workshops
  • Heart and Stress tests
  • Diabetic Group Support
  • Chronic Disease Programs
  • Programs for the disabled
  • In home care programs
  • Falls prevention resources
  • The Elders Coordinator will assist elders with transportation and visits elders who are home bound. We have certified personal care aides for the elders that provide support for clients in a respectful way.
